soft spot for this, because she played for ballroom, and played this song at her show, and the line “i’ve been in exile so long” haunted me afterwards.

‘Cause when I’m with you, everything’s treasure
I forget what it’s like to be gone
I’m far from the town, in the suburbs of your pleasure
I’ve been in exile so long

swimming, sandals, physical space, high-waisted swimsuit bottoms, vacations, road trips from LA, getting jazzed

“It’s only in an initial state of privation that you can begin to have thoughts about what it is you might want, to really imagine or picture it. It’s very difficult to know what we’re frustrated by. In making the case for frustration I want to make it more interesting, such that people can talk or think about it in different ways.

[…]

What I would suggest is more time wasting, less stimulation. We need time to lie fallow like we did in childhood, so we can recuperate. Rather than be constantly told what you want and be pressurised to go after it, I think we would benefit greatly from spells of vaguely restless boredom in which desire can crystallise.”

for definite needing a break

Posted: May 19th, 2013 | No Comments »

here’s who needs a break. ME. me has burnt out. burnt out so hard. have literally zero confidence. like a wet noodle. need to become dry noodle. actually dry steel rod. dry steel rod that bludgeons people with good ideas and confidence, but with inner noodle that allows for empathy and kindness when not bludgeoning.

was supposed to vacation in july but thinking i actually need to go somewhere for one to 172 weeks and just draw and write letters and see best friends and remember how good i have it, just baseline, and that 24-year-olds don’t have all the answers.

(current feeling about 24-year-olds: a more aggrieved/wounded WTF?!)

“I eat a lot of ice cream, chocolate, and cookies, and I drink rosé champagne”

my kind of life. from bazaar’s “24 hours with jenna lyons“:

Then I have coffee: strong, but half milk. I always drink it iced. My favorite thing in the world is coffee ice cream, so I try to get my coffee to taste as close to coffee ice cream as I can.

YES, APPROVE

One of my indulgences is good underwear. I collect beautiful underwear from places like Kiki de Montparnasse, Marni, and Prada. The problem is, they don’t always look good under clothes. I have an insane collection of ice cream in my fridge. I love anything related to coffee ice cream. The espresso gelato from Ciao Bella is amazing. I eat a lot of ice cream, chocolate, and cookies, and I drink rosé champagne.

YES, ALSO APPROVE

2. honest, if difficult, work meetings
3. dreams about vending machines shooting out cookies

scary things:
1. THE FUTURE, losing my job, being penniless, being ashamed
