from mike mills’ blog, the lyrics to leonard cohen’s song “the sisters of mercy”:
“Yes you who must leave everything that you cannot control. It begins with your family, but soon it comes around to your soul. Well I’ve been where you’re hanging, I think I can see how you’re pinned: When you’re not feeling holy, your loneliness says that you’ve sinned.”

last night we had one of the loudest thunderstorms i’ve ever heard. woke up thinking the flashing lights were emergency vehicles. NO IT WAS LIGHTNING. then the sky exploded and it was thundering and lightning and pounding rain. it really actually sounded like god bowling. i couldn’t sleep for an hour or so, on high alert, thinking about all the anxious dogs in marfa.

“There is a distinction between fact and truth. Truth has an element of revelation about it. If something is true, it does more than strike one as merely being so. ”

tender mood these days. like i’m sunburned on the inside. i can’t wait to get health insurance (august 1!) and start going to therapy in alpine. i will become indestructible and never tender and always cool and never feel sunburned on the inside and never worry and be totally awesome at all times. in other news, jonah left me a message describing something good like “a handful of teeny pancakes,” which is the best description i have heard in a long time.
