let’s make a mcwhopper

denied, but an admirable (and 2% bonkers) idea:

In full-page ads running in The New York Times and The Chicago Tribune on Wednesday, Burger King, a perennial also-ran in the burger races, has asked McDonald’s, its battered but still potent archrival, to join forces.

The goal? To operate one restaurant for one day staffed by employees of both companies and selling a burger called the McWhopper, a blend of the Big Mac and the Whopper, the best-selling burgers at McDonald’s and Burger King. Sales proceeds would be donated to Peace One Day, a nonprofit group seeking to raise awareness of the International Day of Peace…

In the proposed pop-up shop, employees from both companies would wear special uniforms, and the burgers they would serve might blend the Big Mac’s top bun (Burger King, not surprisingly, calls it a “crown”) and Big Mac sauce with the tomato slices and 4-ounce meat patty from the Whopper, among other things.

alternate between brat and angel

Posted: August 21st, 2015 | Tags: | No Comments »

i think this may be the crux of my entire life problem: i’m either totally kind and awesome or i’m like the most extreme brat on planet earth, throwing fits and yelling and stomping and saying extreme sometimes hateful things and being just a general BRAT.  like OG brat. i guess it would be good to maybe investigate that behavior. (or ride it through to old age and never learn a GD thing!!!!)

spoiled rotten

look guys i’m spoiled rotten, let’s be honest. my mom showered me with presents for my birthdays and christmases and i learned this was NORMAL. anyway, just FYI for the future and my expectations.

in that vein, my friends threw a surprise party for me last night?

it was so kind. can’t even really talk about it because it felt like, WHAT? like having big bird pop out of your closet and sing to you but maybe not as terrifying as that sounds. but still disorienting and somewhat stressful. all my favorite people were there and they made me milkshakes (!) and had giant balloons spelling nicki (!!) and white wine (!!!) and presents (!!!!) and vegetarian foods (!!!!!). i forgot to eat due to anxiety but got to hold a baby and drink pink champagne and accidentally fed a baby some milkshake which later haunted me at 5am this morning, but the evening was a true kindness.

also update about that jennifer egan story, i was INTO it.

this hits a bit close to home:

The problem is, that kind of passivity tends to bleed out over the rest of your life. You are willing to wait and see where you’ll live, and wait and see whether you’ll ever have kids, and wait and see if you’ll ever find a better job, until eventually you forget that you have control over these outcomes and everything else in your life. You’ve become just another passenger on the bus.Who the fuck knows where it’s going?

this year

Posted: August 18th, 2015 | Tags: | No Comments »

with the exception of:

  • opening presents from my sweet family
  • drinking a milkshake or blizzard, EXTRA WHIP PLEASE
  • not going out tonight or last night and instead staying home and eating garden tomatoes and doing crosswords and reading the new jennifer egan story (WILL IT BE GOOD) and watching season two of twin peaks
  • (going to italy for two weeks september 1)

i’m the biggest birthday celebrator around but this year i’m birthday scroogin (except for the massive wonderful transcendent italian holiday happening in two weeks). just cuz like…why. also i am poor and like everything costs money and why waste it and a massage doesn’t even really last and haven’t i done it all before and just…WHY.

i was creeping around pecos’ downtown after jury duty and saw this park, which made me laugh. i hope people use it but who would use it? two balancing rocks, more rocks, very little shade, gravel. i’m trying not to say anything bad about it because parks/good but. a close-up:
