\u201cInside, the thousands of black people who saw and heard Miss Franklin were more than an audience. They were part of a black interaction \u2014 they came not only to see and hear \u201cLady Soul,\u201d \u201cSoul Sister No. 1,\u201d \u201cThe Queen of Soul\u201d and all those other labels she bears, but also to participate with her in an exultation of their blackness.\u201d<\/p>\n
