{"id":14896,"date":"2018-08-25T18:16:51","date_gmt":"2018-08-25T23:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bookbinderlocal455.com\/blog\/?p=14896"},"modified":"2018-08-30T18:17:49","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T23:17:49","slug":"cant-stop-thinking-about-the-roosevelts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bookbinderlocal455.com\/blog\/2018\/08\/25\/cant-stop-thinking-about-the-roosevelts\/","title":{"rendered":"can&#8217;t stop thinking about the roosevelts?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>having very intense response to that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/kenburns\/the-roosevelts\">ken burns doc about the roosevelts<\/a>. cannot stop thinking about FDR and when i start talking about him, i get v. worked up. <em>&#8220;he didn&#8217;t get polio till he was 39!&#8221; &#8220;he wasn&#8217;t even in office when he got polio! he was in-between everything and had to work himself back in!&#8221; &#8220;he never walked again!&#8221; &#8220;he was basically unlikable as a teenager!&#8221; <\/em>i don&#8217;t know what the emotion is but maybe a combo of sadness, loneliness, incredulity, admiration, some awe? and how he overcame so much, and fought for so much, when he didn&#8217;t have to?<\/p>\n<p>[though his racial record &#8212; not great]<\/p>\n<p>also he was the manager of his high school baseball team (!), which he called &#8220;thankless,&#8221; very true, i was manager of our middle school swim team, and it was thankless\/humiliating. prob would have passed knowing what i know now but who knows.
