The proposed order has been criticised by architectural experts and would fly in the face of the US government&#8217;s existing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa.gov\/real-estate\/design-construction\/design-excellence\/design-excellence-program\/guiding-principles-for-federal-architecture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guiding Principles for Federal Architecture,<\/a> which explicitly state that \u201can official style must be avoided\u201d and that \u201cdesign must flow from the architectural profession to the Government, and not vice versa\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>you can write a letter to the president about this policy <a href=\"https:\/\/p2a.co\/eH3Mx8N\">here<\/a>, and think of this as you&#8217;re writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMy concern is that, more than it is a rule to require classical architecture, it\u2019s a rule with the goal of excluding modern architecture,\u201d [Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic Paul] Goldberger adds. \u201cMany policies that we\u2019re seeing now seem to be about exclusion, and now it\u2019s in the realm of architecture.
