Remember the amazing scene in Casablanca where Laszlo demands that the bar’s orchestra play the Marseillaise in front of some Nazis who have come there to drink, and everyone in the bar starts singing along and they’re crying as they’re singing, and it’s moving as hell? Part of the reason it’s so powerful is that many of the actors in that scene were themselves refugees from the Nazi regime, including the woman who played Yvonne, Rick’s ex-girlfriend.
