so THIS is cool — i almost got in a mask fight last night with ross’s uncle? he basically shamed me for keeping my mask on while we were outside, and then started talking about how we can’t shut down the economy, we have to “go to war” with the virus and i was like, what does that even mean? and ALSO what do you think we’re all doing right now by wearing masks, being socially distanced, working, taking all these precautions? that IS going to war. and yet here you are shaming me for doing exactly (in theory) what you’re saying we have to do? so are you actually suggesting “going to war” is “living like normal”???? i was seeing RED. i have no chill these days. it’s not great. it’s actually terrible. also in other news i’m basically blind, i recognize no one when i’m walking or biking around, so new-old strategy is just wave/smile at everyone but i know this has to be backfiring on me in some way.
ps jeff lynne is british!?

rooting for the heat in these finals. i love lebron but enh, the lakers, can’t get behind ’em. and while the heat aren’t exactly perennial underdogs, they’re scrappier and i love jimmy butler and bam adebayo. i’m going to be so sad when the nba season is over, though ultimately will be good for school.

the world of sound effects is vast and wide

desperately avoiding my (14-page, unstarted) paper that’s due tomorrow so instead considering all the ways in which i am revealing myself to be QUITE old:

amazing article about Magawa, an African giant pouched rat, who detects mines and explosives in Cambodia, and just won (deservedly!) a gold medal for his work:
He can search an area the size of a tennis court in 30 minutes, whereas a person with a metal detector would usually take four days to search an area of that size. When he finds a mine, he signals to his handler by scratching at the earth above it.
AND:
Described by Malen, his main handler, as friendly and hard working, Magawa has a work-life balance that is likely the envy of many a human. “He is very quick and decisive,” Malen said in a statement provided by People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals, “but he is also the first one to take a nap during a break.”
When he is not in the minefield, the two-foot-long rat likes snacking on bananas, peanuts and watermelons, and taking a spin on the running wheel.
PS CONTINUED APOLOGIES FOR THE GRUESOME GOYA-ESQUE PHOTOGRAPHS, THIS BLOG IS BROKEN BUT SO IS MY BRAIN SO I CAN’T DEAL WITH CALLING YAHOO BUT I SWEAR I WILL, SOON
